Using Windows Mail in Vista .... I do not have a deleted items fiolder (at
least can not see it) and the software does not prompt me if I actually want
to delete them. Therefore my deleted email disappears.

I have local folders and imap.aol folders. Neither have deleted messages
folder.

Any ideas or suggestions?

For the local folders, make sure the deleted items folder didn't get moved
under another folder so that it became a subfolder. Also check the message
store directory in Explorer and see if there is a deleted items folder. See
www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx and the section on Winmail for background.
