One PC on my workgroup can't find the list of servers for
the workgroup. I've tried the following solution without
success:
[ 1. On the desktop, right-click My Network Places, and
then click Properties.
2. Right-click the appropriate connection, and then
click Properties.
3. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click
Properties.
4. Click Advanced, and then click WINS.
5. If you are using a static Internet Protocol (IP)
address, click Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. If you have a
DHCP-assigned IP address, click Use NetBIOS setting from
the DHCP server.
6. Click OK in the open dialog boxes to close them
and to save the new settings.

If this procedure does not resolve the difficulty, force a
browser election by restarting all computers in the
workgroup. ]

Any ideas on how to correct this problem?

Make sure the computer is not using a personal firewall or other application
that may restrict access. Verify that it is using the same network address
and subnet mask as the other computers which would be the first three octets
of the IP address [ xxx.xxx.xxx.*** ] in a typical class c network as shown
by Ipconfig /all. Personal firewalls do have the ability to have a trusted
zone however that you can configure with your local subnet. That computer
should also show at least three entries when using the command nbtstat -n.
Double check that the server service and workstation services are started
using services.msc and that Client for Microsoft Networks and file and print
sharing are enabled on your network adapter for tcp/ip. Reboot the computer
and look in Event Viewer to see if any pertinent errors are in the system or
application log. If still a no go run the netdiag support tool on it looking
for any errors, warning, failed tests that may indicate the problem. Netdiag
is part of the support tools on the install cdrom in the support/tools
folder. If still a no go open Local Security Policy [secpol.msc] and go to
security settings/local policies/security options and make sure that the
first security option for additional restrictions for anonymous connections
is NOT no access without explicit anonymous permissions. Beyond that I would
reinstall tcp/ip and repair winsock as described in the link below. ---
