I am having some trouble trying to locate my firewall settings. The
help file and posts suggest the following:

My Computer > My
Network Places>View network connections>select (highlight) your net
connection. Do a right-click> select Properties>click on ADVANCED
Tab. See
status of check box labeled Internet Connection Firewall.
If it is clear>then it is off. To turn on, click (or press space
bar) to
turn it on.

The trouble is I don't have the ADVANCED tab??

My set up is as follows:

AMD XP 1900
Windows XP Pro
Cable Modem
Linksys hub / router
Realtek NIC

Anybody else had this or know the answer?

Thanks

Make sure to select the properties of your local network, and not the
internet connection.
But you better keep the WindowsXP firewall aside and get a good one.
You can get the Zone Alarm for free.
You probably have a firewall built in your router, check it out.

Good Luck,

Tal

"Internet Gateway" is an internet connection that XP creates when you
connect to the internet through a router/other computer. It's a virtual
device that has no "Advanced' or firewall settings. You would only see the
firewall option on ethernet adapters, dial-up, PPPOE connections and the
like. The ethernet adapter that connects to the router would be the place
you could activate the XP firewall. It might not be a good idea because the
XP firewall can block communications between the router and the computer.
