Can't E-Mail Docs Directly from Word or Excel 2007

Running Outlook 2007 (SP1). If I try to send a doc directly from Word 2007
(Send | E-mail), Outlook shuts down immediately and completely. If I try to
send a doc directly from Excel 2007 (Send | E-mail), I get the message
"General mail failure. Quite Microsoft Office Excel, restart the mail
system, and try again." Needless to say, doing this yields no improvement.
Can someone help me get this feature working?

Thanks,
KratonDave

Hello KratonDave,

Thank you for posting.

From your post, I understand when attempting to send Word and Excel file
through File\Send\E-mail, the Outlook crashes or receive the error "General
mail failure. Quite Microsoft Office Excel, restart the mail system, and
try again". If I'm off base, please feel free to let me know.

I would like to know whether the issue occurs if we send files by using
following method:

1. Right click document file (.txt, .doc) and click Send To\Mail Recipient
2. In Internet Explorer, click on File/Send/Page by e-mail

In addition, please let me know:

1. When the issue occurs, whether Outlook is running. If you close Outlook,
whether the issue still persists?
2. Whether it is a pure installation Office 2007 or you upgrade it from
Office 2003?
3. Whether the Exchange System Management tool installed the client?
4. Whether the issue occurs only on one client?
5. Please check Application Log if any related error is recorded.

I suggest you perform the steps below to troubleshoot the issue:

Step 1: Run the Detect and Repair tool from Add or Remove Programs
=====================================================
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click Microsoft Office 2007, and then click change.
4. Click Repair and then click continue.

Reboot your computer and test if you have the same issues. If the issue
persists, please move to the next step.

Step 2: Remove third-party add-ins of Outlook:
================================
Export and Remove the following registry keys:

Hkey_local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins
HKey_Current_user\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins

Step 3: Verify the registry keys
=====================
Warning: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Please do
a good backup before you do the following things.

1. Close all your open programs in Microsoft Windows.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
4. Locate and then click the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
Messaging Subsystem registry key.
5. You should have the following registry values listed in the Windows
Messaging Subsystem key:

Name Type Data
MAPI REG_SZ 1
CMC REG_SZ 1
CMCDLLNAME32 REG_SZ Mapi32.dll
MAPIX REG_SZ 1
MAPIXVER REG_SZ 1.0.0.1
OLEMessaging REG_SZ 1

6. If any one of the registry values are missing in the Windows Messaging
Subsystem key of the registry. Please add the values.

Sincerely,
Mike Shen
