Recently I have been not able to download .zip files. When I click on the
file to be downloaded a new window opens with a tiny little box in the
upper left-hand corner. In the message box at the bottom it says "done". But
there is no zip file downloaded. I can download other types of files with
no problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Open Windows Explorer and go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to the file type in question and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Check the box for "Confirm open after download".
