I'm not sure if this is the correct group for this problem. If it isn't
please direct me.

I can't save videos from YouTube. Here are the 3 ways I've tried and the
results of each attempt.

1. With YouTube Downloader. I enter the YouTube video URL and click "OK".
I get the error message, "Unable download remote file, try again!"

2. With Save2pc. I enter the YouTube video URL and click "Start".
I get the error message, "HTTP/1.1 500 Server Error Error 3"

3. With Firefox and its DownloadHelper plu-in. I go to the YouTube video.
The DownloadHelper icon is animated, indicating that it's working. The video
plays through. But the dwhelper folder, which is the default save location,
is empty.

Does anyone here know how to save videos using these applications or,
failing that, can someone recommend a freeware application that works for
this? Or help me understand why these 3 applications do not work for me.

Thank you

I don't know what is causing your issues...

Maybe the following free online converter
will work for you:

vixy.net
http://vixy.net/

Some info...
====================================
When using the http://vixy.net/ site with YouTube...
the first step simply converts the video clip to
a different format...avi for example. Next...
you have to download the converted file to your
hard drive as follows:

After the file conversion is finished you will see
the following dialog on the screen:

Conversion Finished. Please download the following link:.
Download the converted video

You can right click "Download the converted video"
and choose... "Save Target As"...this will open the
"Save As" dialog that allows you to choose a save
location on your hard drive. Choose...Desktop...
and click the "Save" button.

After the file is downloaded you can go to your
desktop and move the file to any folder you
choose.

Note: I've noticed that sometimes the conversion
will fail...I think this is due to high traffic on the site...
the solution is to simply try again.

I use Free Download Manager, it even converts them to a more suitable format
after d/l.

It -is- a bit off topic <g>

I went to http://www.videodownloadx.com/

Pasted the URL for a random video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ONJfp95yoE

Clicked on the Download video button, waited for a few seconds then went down to the
thumbnail of the video image, located the "download" text sandwiched between the 2
Google ads, right clicked the "download" link, selected Saved Target As, renamed the
file to CatVideo.flv and clicked the saved button. 1.4MB (give or take) downloaded, I then
used file explorer to navigate to the folder where I saved the file and double clicked the
FLV file. Video played fine on my installed FLV Player.

Test with above video, it that works, the issue might be with the file that you want to
download. I really can't suggest more.
