Can't Download Driver

Hi,

Can someone please help me?

I got a new Lexmark 1300 printer, and I've been trying to install it.
I cannot use the installation CD, because
my CD-Rom drive is shot. So, I've been trying to download the driver
from the Lexmark website. The
first time, it took a long time, and my ISP terminated my connection
before it had time to fully complete.
Now, everytime I try to download again, after just a few minutes, it
fails and I get this message:

"C:\Documents and
settings\Owner\Desktop\cjr1300.exe.part could not be saved, because
the source file could not be read.
Try again later, or contact the server administrator"

What does it mean? What's preventing me from
downloading the driver?

If I can't ever download the driver again, then does
anyone know which driver listed on the Windows XP
Installation Wizard list of Lexmark Printer drivers
would be compatible with my 1300?

I've tried contacting Lexmark Help, but he/she/it doesn't seem to
understand the problem.

Your best course of action would be to replace you CD drive.
They cost very little and you will need it time and again. Not
having one is equivalent to you having to enter and leave your
car by the window because the door handle fell off.

I assume you're using Firefox to download the file. Try downloading
it to a different location, e.g. to C:\. You can set the destination
in Tools / Options / Main. You should also try a download with
Internet Explorer.

Note that this is a 75 MByte file. Do you have enough free space
on your hard disk? And do you have a fast Internet connection?
Downloading this file with a dial-up modem is not realistic. It
would take several hours and the probability of the connection
dropping out in the middle is high.

An alternative is to ask a friend to download it for you and
copy it to your machine with a Flash Disk ("Memory Stick").

Talking to the Lexmark people is pointless. The file is available
on their site and it downloads without a problem. I just tried it
myself.

Buy a new cd drive, they are cheap.
Delete all temp files, run Disk Cleanup
Delete cjr1300.exe if it exists on your desktop,
Then try again

There are several reasons for that error message, depending on what
browser you're using, file permissions, etc. You'll have to supply more
details.

With IE, it can signify problems in writing to the temp directory, where
IE downloads the file until it's all done; and then it copies the mess
from the temp directory to the final target
directory (Owner\Desktop in this case).

With FireFox, it can indicate a profile problem.

Anyway, I just tried to download the file myself and it works just great
for me with *both* browsers. No problems whatsoever for me.

Would you like me to email you the whole bloody file as an attachment?
It's big (75 MB), but I don't mind.

I do plan on buying one, but it'll have to wait till after Christmas.

You're probably right about that - but I want to keep trying what I
can.

I tried deleting the temp files and running disk cleanup, but it
didn't
work.

I use Firefox. I found the "cache" file in Profiles of the
Mozilla file - should I delete them? AFAIK, they were all
created on the days and times I tried to download the
driver. Are they temporary files?

That's extremely nice of you. But if I'm having this much trouble
just downloading it, I'd probably have as much getting it through
email. Wouldn't I? :-\

Do you realize how little they cost? You can buy a drive for as little
as $15 or so.
