Hi,

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore

Look in the right pane for the following values:

DisableSR
DisableConfig

If either of these values exists, double click it and change its value to 0 (zero). If they don't exist, right click in blank area of the right pane, select New, DWord value and give it the appropriate name. Leave it at 0. You shouldn't have to, but you may need to reboot for the change to take effect.

Please double check the entries and make sure they're the same. Some types of malware will disable this to prevent removal. If this is the case, ensure that your antivirus software is up to date and running.

You may also want to check out AdAware, www.lavasoftusa.com and SpyBot Search and Destroy, www.safer-networking.org. In both cases, make sure you check for updates for the program.

Hi Kittykat49,

Backup the key and then _delete_ the two values that Doug mentioned:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore

DisableSR
DisableConfig

System Restore Group Policy restrictions:
