can't delete text in Outlook subject box

I use Microsoft Outlook 2003. When I choose New Message and type text into
the subject box and make a mistake such as a typo I can't delete the text in
the subject box. Neither the delete button or the Backspace button would
work. Any help is very much appreciated

The date and time was Tue Apr 07 2009 09:49:02 GMT-0700 (Pacific
Daylight Time), and on a whim, Richard Nagel pounded out on the keyboard:

Hi Richard,

Does Ctrl-Z undo it?
