No a good idea to delete photo files on your memory stick with your computer
and yes Sony does this to prevent the loss of pictures. We get too many
"lost pictures" questions here, take it from us, do it the safe way.
Copy the pictures to your hard drive, check that they are really there, copy
them to a CD, check that they are really there. Then, and only then, delete
them from your camera.
In your camera, you go to File and Format. This will erase all the pictures
on your memory stick and prepare it for new pictures.
