Hi,
I have a new XPhome problem. Defrag will work on all drives
except drive c. When I try it to analyz drive C it comes up
with this message: Disk Defragmenter has detected that
chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: (c). Please run
Chkdsk/f.

Is there a registry edit or other way to fix this please?

A few questions, Is this something that just started?
Meaning youve always used this XP computer..Have you run
check disk fully at start up? if not do so, then try to
defrag...if that dont do it, click start..click run and
type chkdsk/f and hit enter..Still not sure why its
prompting you to run in dos mode.If all else fails, go
into your task scheduler and remove check disk from
it..Also make sure you have the patch..if i remember right
there was a flaw in that option or something.

the problem may arise due to following reasons
1) check that any disk utlity is accessing the harddisk c:
2)by pressing ctrl+alt+del click on process tab.
3) if chkdsk.exe process is running stop it by right clicking with mouse > select end process
4) One important thing is that only one disk utilites can run at a time because when one runs scandisk or chkdsk the ultiltiy locks the drive (exclusive) for that process and no other process can access it.

>Hello and thanks for trying to help.

In answer to your questions:
Yes the problem has just started. Dont know if it has
anything to do with a 128mb Sandisk cruzer mini thumbdrive
(removable drive) that I now use. I ran defrag on it.
I have tried to run chkdsk /f but it tells me the drive is
in use by another process annd gives me a yes or no option
to run the program again at start up. Have tried both yes
and no options. I have no programs in scheduled tasks.
Might have to look for the patch option if I can find some
information on it. Thanks
..
