I have a program that requires installation of a folder
into C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents.
Access is denied when it tries to create the folder. I
tried manually to create the folder but get the message
that the folder already exists. But there is no folder
there with that name. (All hidden files and folders are
showing.) The only folder in All Users that is similar
is the Shared Documents folder. The All Users folder is
read only and cannot be changed.
I asked a friend who has XP to find out if he could
create a folder named Documents in the Documents and
Settings\All Users folder and he wasn't able to do it
either... got the same message that the folder already
existed.
Does anyone have an idea about this?

The Shared Documents is the Documents folder for the All Users account.
That is why you are blocked from creating a folder by that name. Shell
folders (My Documents, My Pictures, etc) are handled differently than other
folders and that's why the names don't appear to match.
The installer for the new software wants the literal path \Documents which
doesn't exist in XP. Is there an alternative for installing if you use the
Custom install options? Any info in the program's technical documents
(included with the program or online)?

Thanks for the info Sharon. Now I know why I can't
create the folder. I've tried doing a custom install of
the program but it still tries to create that folder.
I've submitted the question to the forum discussion for
Pinnacle products and found another person with the same
problem. Maybe one of the tech support people will come
up with a solution.
