Can't create CNAME Record

I just created a static DNS record for a Win NT 4.0
server. My DNS is Win2k, AD Integrated. I want to create
a CNAME (alias) for this NT 4.0 box. However, when I try
to create the alias, I get the following error:

A new record cannot be created. A CNAME record cannot be
added to this DNS name. The DNS name contains records
that are incompatible with the CNAME record.

I can't figure it out. I am able to create CNAME records
for other DNS entries. Thanks.

What are the names? zone name, the existing A record's name, and the name of
the CNAME you are trying to create?

You can't use the same name for both the A record and the CNAME record. To
create a CNAME you need to do something like this"

zone domain.com

server1 A 192.168.0.1
serveralias CNAME server1.domain.com

In news:4c6e01c3e4fc$97e93340$(E-Mail Removed),

A CNAME record cannot exist in a zone with a record of any kind of the same
name.
