your backup software is probably running out of disc space
on the drive that has the 4 gig file on it. In most cases,
these utilities create temp files and if you are doing one
massive file like that, it might be trying to create a
temp file that big for this one file. Make sure you have
at least 4-5 gig free on the drive where the file is
stored before you try to back it up.
if all else fails, attach your destination drive to
another computer, and use FTP to GET the file from the
other PC, this should eliminate the need for temp file
space on the originating drive.
