I have an HP PC that came installed with Vista, and I also have an HP laptop
with an XP installation CD.
Since I like XP better, I used the laptop CD to install XP on my PC.
All went well, but it can't seem to pick up the wireless signal from my
linksys router.
The network connections only show the "1394" network adapter, which claims
to be connected at 400 Mbps, but really isn't connected (no web pages, no
email).
Any suggestions?

Alfred, go to www.hp.com and Support and Drivers. Enter your PC
Model # and it will present you with available drivers.
Hopefully they have WinXP drivers but I wouldnt count on it. Post
back here the Model # of your HP Computer also.
You can find a driver once you know what Network chip the computer is
using.

Thanks Rich!
My HP is a m7763w.
Unfortunately, their typical response is that they don't give support to you
if you changed the OS.
Also, I can't seem to find out who the manufacturer of my net adapter is, to
go on their website and look for a driver download.

Thanks, that looked promising.
However, the application that downloads scans the system, then wants to go
online (he, he!) to find the right drivers!
So I went to the length of finding an old ethernet cable to run to my PC in
the assumption the ethernet connection to the router would work for sure.
Alas, no driver was installed for it either.
Now I am ready to chuck it in - totally exhausted and have to go to bed.

Alfred downloading this program. http://www.gtopala.com/ (siw) It
should tell you who makes your adapter, then it's just a matter of
getting the drivers from their website.
