Hi,

I hope this is the right group to post this Problem in.
I have the following problem.
My Laptop (IBM T21) with an PCMCIA-Ethernet-Card has a problem
connecting to the internet via a Gateway.

I receive my IP, the DNS, the Gateway and all the needed stuff via
DHCP.
When I ping an outside Server (i.e. www.google.com), the name is
resolved and I get the IP and the returned pings. I can also tracert,
works fine.
When I open any Browser (i.e. IE or Firefox)and try to access any
service outside I get an error-message (IE=Search page could not be
found; FF=Access prohibited).
I have already tried all kind of proxy settings, doesn't work.

The funny thing is: It works at my company (via proxy) and with Linux.
Webpages on the inside web (not routed through the Gateway) work fine
too.

Thanks for your help

Christof

short summary:

DHCP -> works
DNS -> works
IP & Gateway -> set via DHCP
Browsing -> does not work on the Internet, works on the inside network

It sounds like your company uses a proxy but when you're home (I assume
that's where it doesn't work) you have direct internet access and don't
need to use a proxy.
In your Control Panel --> Internet settings --> Connections --> Lan
Settings box, make sure that all boxes are unchecked when you are at
home.

HTH,
John

Thanx John, but I have already switch off the proxy.

But I figured out, why I couldn't get into the net.

My Company does something with socks. I had to rename one file, and now it works.
Thanks for your help anyway!

Cheers

Christof
