Here's a very strange problem.

I'm using a new install of windows XP SP 2, with all windows updates
applied.

When I first boot up the OS, I can connect to the internet and all
networking services run fine. After browsing the internet for 5
minutes or so, I can no longer connect to the web. If I'm using IE, I
get 'page cannot be displayed error' and if I'm using Firefox, I get
'operation timed out error'. Once the situation occurs, the only way
I can get connect to the internet again is to reboot the OS.

While I can't browse the internet, I can still ping machines outside my
LAN, I can use file and print sharing, I can create and maintain a VPN
connection, etc. I just can't browse the internet. Also, any other
software that uses http connections stops functioning. For example
gmail notifier stops working.

I've tried uninstalling the network cards and reinstalling. I've
disabled windows firewall, disabled all Antivirus software. I've tried
running the following commands: netsh winsock reset & netsh int ip
reset.

Nothing seems to solve the problem.

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm completely perplexed...

I've run a deep scan with Ad-aware 6, and found nothing but a couple
tracking cookies. I'm pretty sure this computer is spyware free as
it's a brand new install (just finished yesterday) and I'm not been
hitting any sights outside of my bank, gmail, and the newsgroups.

Any other ideas?

I've now also tried removing winsock keys from registry and
re-installing the tcp/ip protocols.

Still not working.

Please help...

When you get your browser problems, are all destinations affected? Are they
affected if you use IP address? Find out IP addresses:

What outside your LAN do you ping? Do you ping by name, or by IP address?
