can't connect to database

After installing the XPe tools and having a working system, I changed some
of the login accounts on my machine and the machine name itself. Now I am
getting messages from all of the XPe tools that they cannot connect to the
database. Component designer mentions a possible cause of "you do not have
permissions" but most tools simply say "check your database connection."
The SQL Service Manager appears to have very few functions and these checks
are not among them. What can I do to figure out why the tools can't talk to
the database?

Sam

when you ran database manager, it is possible to change the database server

possible there is the old computer name, so the tools cant find your
server....

No, I had updated Database Manager to the new machine name and the problem
still exists.

when you have changed the user accounts, perhaps the user have no rights to
connect to the db.
I had the same problem when I connected to the db with a different user...

I used the sql enterprise manager to add different user accounts at the xpe
db.

I am not a database person. Since I didn't find SQL Enterprise Manager on
my system I assume it is not bundled with XPe. Is there a capability within
the XPe tools that I can use?

Hi Sam,

I'm guesing that in your case SQL is using windows authentication.

I don't know but method I suggested for Heidi in next thread, might work for
you.

Best regards,
Slobodan

I have seen in the past that SQL Server does not like it if you change the
machine name.
Try changing the machine name back to the original or re-install SQL.
A posting in an SQL newsgroup might also help.

Good luck,
Hartmut
