After I upgraded my Compaq Presario 5002us to Windows
2000 (from ME) I can no longer connect to aol broadband
service. The connections are fine, cable modem is
working, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software,
unplugged the modem to reset it...everything worked great
until the upgrade yesterday. (Not a clean install bythe
way, just upgrade). The connection hangs on the 1st step
and I get this error message, "Unable to connect to the
aol network" I'm having no other problems and of course,
AOL is unable to help me resolve this problem.

Any ideas out there? :-D

Cyndi, you might want to follow the thread from my previous
post re: unable to connect to network after re-install.

I'm having similar problems. I believe the best thing to
do, is a "clean" install rather than an "upgrade".

Andy.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for your reply. I read your other thread, but the
difference is, I am not on a network! Just one ornery pc
that doesn't want me to check my email...I had thought of
the clean install, had hope to manage the problem without
doing that.

Another potiential problem though that may be
related?...When I enter "ipconfig" at my command prompt,
I get NO ip address! I get the message, "bad command" or,
sometimes it will say, "windows 2000 pro" and that's it.
No ip addy. Could that be part of the problem?

Cyndi
