Can't Configure MSN Mail Account

I was having problems with the send/receive function in Outlook, so went to
Tools/Account Settings (for some reason, Mail doesn't appear in Control
Panel). I deleted the old MSN mail account and tried to add it back in. It
failed on the "Log on to Server" test. I reset the password and tried again.
Same result.

I uninstalled Office (including Outlook) and deleted all Office registry
entries I could find (HKLocalMachine and HKLocalUser). Reinstalled Office
2007, with the same results as above.

Worse, it remembered my settings. How do I get my email account back in
Outlook? I have no problems getting mail through IE, but I really prefer
Outlook.

What type of account are you configuring?

Use the classic or list view in control panel to see mail - otherwise, its
hidden under the 32bit apps in 64bit windows.

Diane:

I'm trying to configure a MSN mail account ('(E-Mail Removed)'). I didn't find
a Mail application under "\Program Files (x86)". Was that the place I was
supposed to look?

That's not my primary problem. I can't use Tools\Account Settings... to add
the (E-Mail Removed) account to Outlook. It continues to fail on the Server
Logon test. Even after I reset the password on the MSN account.

The secondary problem is that I can't get Outlook to forget the settings,
even after uninstalling Office 2007, and deleting the registry tree "Office"
on both HKLocalMachine and HKCurrentUser.

I am running 64-bit Vista Ultimate and Office Ultimate 2007.

The mail applet is in the control panel, not windows explorer. The control
panel is grouped by category by default and many people have problems
finding the Mail applet - its easier in the list view. I think Vista calls
it classic view. This screenshot of the default view of the control panel
is from XP -

I don't have a vista virtual machine handy but vista is similar.

Are you trying to use the Outlook connector or POP3 for the msn account?
