I have 2 computers at home connected to a Linksys WRT54G
router (Firmware 2.02.7)and "connects" to AOL with Cable
Modem and AOL 8.0.
First computer - Windows XP,AOL 8.0 and is connected to
router with network cable. Connects OK to AOL and to
second computer.
Second Computer - Windows 2000, AOL 8.0 and is connected
to the Linksys WRT54G router with a Linksys Wireless-G PCI
adapter WMP54G (Driver 3.30.15). Connects OK to the router
and I can ping the IP address of the first computer and
also the AOL IP address.

Problem - The second computer used to connect OK to AOL
until there was a problem with the computer and I
reinstalled Windows 2000. When I try to connect to AOL
with the second computer I get this error "Your Windows
Networking is not properly configured".

I have done the following and still have the same problem
in the second computer:
1- Contacted AOL 3 times - No clues
2- Linksys - No clues
3- Reinstalled Windows 2000 Professional in second
computer 3 times
4- Reinstalled AOL 8.0 in second computer 4 times and
changed setup in AOL logon screen many times.
5- Upgraded router firmware and driver in wireless PCI card
6- Checked for any type of Network error including
configuration. TCP/IP setup is OK, the second computer is
setup to Obtain and IP address automatically and also a
DNS server automatically.
7- Searched the Internet and Microsoft for this type of
error "Your Windows Networking is not properly configured".

Just a stab, but it sounds to me like the DNS is not being
passed thru the router correctly. Access the WAN side of
the router, and note the DNS addy(s) its getting from the
ISP. Then lay those DNS addresses manually into the 2nd
W2K box, and deselect obtain dns automatically.

I have spoken to several people with the same problem
First of all go into AOL system Info--> Utilitises--> and unistall AOL
adapter
Then add new hardware in CP--> add new hardware
click next
add/troubleshoot a device--> add new device-->No select from list-->network
adapters
Highlight AOL and select WAN (ATW)--> next--> finish
restart AOL and try.
If this doesn't work
Try
Start--> Run-->regedit (can make a reg back up if encounter any problems)
drill down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-->System-->currentcontrolset-->services
delete both winsock and winsock2 foldersclose regedit and shutdown and
restart PC
When boots back up open CP
open network and dialup connections--> right click local area
connection-->properties
highlight TCP/IP and uninstall--. Click yes you want to remove it--> reboot
PC
Once reboted go back into network and dialup connections--> right click
properties-->install-->protocol-->TCP/IP-->OK

launch AOL and try log on

Hope this helps

I installed Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) and it fixed
the problem.
