I too get the "DING" Jay describes.........very
annoying.Mine didn't start until after I enabled the 3rd
party browsing so that I could have different skins on the
browser.When I disable the 3rd party browsing,I can close
the window, but cannot have my skins........oh what to do.?

Check for an adware, spyware, parasite type program.
