XP SR2 / Outlook 2002
Hope my terminology is correct.
I have a folder (pst file?) on the left hand pane of Outlook titled
'Personal folder.' It is an extra folder - not in use. But when I
right-click and try to close it I get 'Operation failed. An object
could not be found.'
How do I close this folder?

If you can't remove it with File>Data File Management (i.e., it doesn't
appear there), then you have a corrupt mail profile and you must create a
new one. The Mail applet in Control Panel permits that.

Thanks for the reply.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
When I open Outlook, I have 4 folders in the left column - Archive, one
for me, one for my wife, and Personal Folders.
Under Control Panel|Mail, all I see is Archive and the one for my wife.
How do I delete the Personal Folder?
(and where is the reference to mine?)

Does Control Panel's Mail applet show the same thing with the "Data Files"
button? If so, you need to create a new mail profile.

Which of the PSTs is your delivery location?

Unsure what I am doing. Mail applet shows only my wife's pst.
Now, in the left panel, I have my folder, 2 of my wife's, and 1 Personal
folder. Instead of making progress, I am adding folders. I seem unable
to delete any of the folders - one is default, the others 'object not
found.'
I have tried a slipstick 'how-to' to delete folders but it doesn't seem
to work.

You seem to have a very corrupt mail profile. TIme for a new one.
