You can force-shut the IE window by doing an end-task in the windows task
manager. Here is how:
1) Hit (ctrl + shift + esc) to pop up the windows task manager window.
2) select the program you want to force-shut. In your case it is IE.
3) click on End-Task button.
4) Click on End-Now button if another window pops up.
This is useful to force shut some applications that refuse to shut down.
