I have an HP media center, and when I connect a camcorder via firewire to the
computer, I am unable to capture any media. I open movie maker, and I see
two options to choose...one that says Conexant 2388x video capture, which is
the tuner card connected to my hard drive. The other option is the
camcorder, but when I try to click on it, I get an error that says, "a
problem was encountered while trying to connect one of your capture devices",
and then the window closes. I've gone round and round w/HP, who are
absolutely clueless as to the cause. Also, as an fyi, the camcorder does
show up when you click on 'my computer', and I've also tried MUVEE
Autoproducer as well, and the camcorder does not even show up as an option
there. Has anyone heard of any difficulties like this? My sense is that
perhaps something is not connected right inside my pc, but I'm not sure.

It maybe the usual issue that *some* DV cam's need to have "DV-output"
activated? Rummage around in your cam's menu's for an option for
"DV-Output".

decoder...thanks for the suggestion; however, this issue occurs with any
device I connect to the HP. Whether it is a dvr, camcorder, anything.
