Hi Steven,
I had exactly the same problem with video-capturing when I
tried this for the first time yesterday at my brand new
Windows PC.
Microsoft gives some comment about "IEEE 1394 Trouble
Shooting" at their support pages for known problems at the
W2000 platform. Search for firewire or "233307".
A possible cause might be the power management system of
the video camera itself.
I'll do some more tests later this week at other PC's
(Win2000 & WinXP) and with other videocams. I'll keep you
informed.
