I have 2 notebooks and 1 desktop connected through a 4 port router. The
notebooks can see and browse each other

and can see the W2K box but cannot browse it (error = \\hal is not
accessable "The computer or sharename could

not be found"). The W2k box can only see itself when Exploring the network.
There is no problem with web access

from any of them and sharing is turned on all. The router shows all the
device IP connections correctly but does

not detect the W2k box's name. Both notebook's name and IP are also
correct.I've run sfc to restore w2k files

with no change. The network has worked fine for some time and then the w2k
box problem occured.

Below are the specifics - any help greatly appreciated.

OS
NB1: W98SE
NB2: W98SE
DT1: W2K

Workgroup
NB1: SUMMIT
NB2: SUMMIT
DT1: SUMMIT

Ping By IP
NB1: All
NB2: All
DT1: All

Ping By Name
NB1: NB2, self
NB2: NB1, self
DT1: Self

Web Access thru common router
NB1: Yes
NB2: Yes
DT1: Yes

Use the 'add a network place' use \\ip.number\sharename
See if that works
