Hello,
I have a problem with the DVD/CDRW drive in my Dell Latitude D800 laptop.
Dell have replaced the hardware which has not fixed the problem.

The problem is similar, but not exactly the same as some other posts on
these boards...

When I insert a CD or DVD rom the dirve listed in explorer changes from
'DVD/CD-RW' to 'CD Drive', and it will not read any files. If I look in My
Computer the CD Drive details say Total Size 0 bytes and Free Space 0 bytes.
CDROMs do not autoplay.

If I put a CDR in the drive, it does list the free space, but not the files
already on the drive. For example if there is 200Mb already on a 700Mb CD, My
computer displays Total Size 500Mb and Free Space 500Mb.

However, if a put an audio CD in, media player plays the CD ok.

Here's the weird thing. If I open Computer Management - Disk Management,
then the CD behaves exactly as it should. I don't have to do anything with
Disk Management other that simply open the applet.
That is until I put an different CD or DVD in; I then have to use Disk
Management again to be able to use the disk.

I had the poblem with XP service pack 1 and it has remained after putting on
SP2.

Any Ideas?

Thanks, Neil

Look these over and see if they apply or can help you solve the issue..
