hi. please help me. Im on winXP Sp2 and I can't seem to log on windows again.
Everytime I boot my PC, it goes to a black screen with some options of safe
mode, boot to las known configuration and so on. I tried all the options and
nothing worked. I tried pressing f8 and still no luck. When I long press the
del button while it's restarting, it gave me standard CMOS features, advanced
bios features, ect. what will I do? thanks so much in advance!

I'm sorry but this isn't enough information to give you focused advice. What
is the recent history of this machine? What are some of the details about
your computer (make/model/age, etc.)? What antivirus/security software do
you have installed?

The issue could be software or hardware, there is simply no way for us to
tell without knowing more.

my brother sent it to us while he was having a vacation in asia. when we set
it up, it worked just fine until we shut it down for the night. the brand is
an LG (it says on the tower). and we just had the sygate firewall in there.
thanks for the quick reply

Still not much information about the machine. No antivirus installed? Used
computer? Test the hardware, at least a quick diagnostic on the hard drive
and RAM, and if all is good do a clean install of Windows.

Standard disclaimer: I can't see and test your computer myself, so these are
just suggestions based on many years of being a professional computer tech;
suggestions based on what you've written. You should not take my
suggestions as a definitive diagnosis. If you can't do the work yourself
(and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the
machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent
of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). If possible, have all your data backed up
before you take the machine into a shop.

Does your brother expect his PC to be returned to him? If he has any
data on there (documents, photos, music, etc.), a clean install will
wipe it all away.

You need to use installation media that matches the version installed; i.e.,
XP Home/Pro/Media Center retail/OEM. If the machine is not an OEM (Dell,
HP, generic w/COA sticker on the case) then because you can no longer get
into the operating system you'll probably need to purchase a full retail
copy of whatever version of XP you want to run.
