Can't boot after converting to logical disk

The header pretty much says it all. I need to convert the partition
containing Windows XP to a logical disk, but when I do, the operating
system won't finish loading. This probably has to do with the HAL or
something, but darned if I can figure out what. (The drive letters
stay the same.)

Can anyone tell me how I can get my currently installed Windows XP
environment to load from a logical disk without reinstalling?

Thanks.

You can't boot from a logical partition - it has to be primary and
active. What are you trying to achieve by this?

The only way I know of is to use a third-party boot loader,
e.g. XOSL. It has the ability to boot into any Windows
installation, regardless of its location (master/slave, primary/
secondary IDE controller, primary/logical partition). However,
installing a boot manager in order to restore your booting
ability appears to be a case of the tail wagging the dog.
Much easier to convert your partition back to primary!
