Can't attach files to email

Hi
When using the right click to attach photo files to email messages I am
asked to resize which is fine. The attatchment window closes but nothing is
attached and the new email doesn't appear on screen as it used to.
This applies to all file types.
There is no problem opening a new email and using the insert file function,
this works fine but it means I have to resize photo's before attatching.
