can't assign htm or html to applications

File types for word, excel, and most other applications run nicely when
the files are double clicked. But htm or html files don't. I have many
times tried "open with" and select the appropriate app such as
frontpg.exe for htm. I'm sure to click that little box that says
"always" open it with this app. (I assume this is the equiv. of "folder
options control panel"). It opens one time but never again.

After doing this "open with", I close it all down. Then next time I
click the htm file, I get "This file does not have a program associated
with it....".

The only other way I can open a htm file is to drag the icon onto a
shortcut to the exe file.

Can someone please give me a place to start to fix this? Something is
bad wrong with this system. Win2K on a pentium 4.

Thanks.

What do you see for the 'default HTML editor" in IE tools, folder options,
programs?

Thanks for responding -- It's set for "Netscape". The only other option listed is Notepad. I changed it to notepad and that works. But I really want it to open with Frontpage. But I can't make it do it.

That is odd - it ought to be showing up there. Does Frontpage work right on
its own? Have you tried reinstalling it?

Yes, Frontpage runs fine if it's the app that is launched. But I want to assign

htm/html to Frontpage and it just won't do it. Yes, I have reinstalled
Frontpage 2000. Thanks, Rob

That sounds bizarre. Have you tried posting this in a Frontpage group to see
if anyone has any further suggestions? I'm out of ideas, sorry.

The problem is that I can't assign htm or html to anything, not just
Frontpage. Other extensions can easily be assigned. I suspect it's a
problem with Big Brother IExplorer but not sure. Thanks for your
attention on this.
