Did you find a solution to your problem? I'm having the same problem. If you did, how did you fix it?

The solution is very likely related to whether you have the free versions of
Power DVD or WinDVD installed on your machine....OR...you have paid for version
that are now out of date. Both programs if they match the above criteria will
cause problems with Movie Maker 2.

Hi. I think i have the same problem. When I try to open a saved project with movie maker 2.0 (which i have edited with movie maker version 1...), or when i try to add special effects, the program shuts down automaticly. All this started happening after i updated it to 2.0 :
Why
I have power dvd installed. it can propably cause theese problems like you said... But i Like PowerDVD and would not like to uninstall it just because this software has a problem. Cant you make an update to remove this bug?

My apologies for the late reply...have been having fun with a "Whole of the
World" newsgroup search...anyway.

The answer is yes you can....I had the free versions of Power and Win DVD. I
removed WinDVD and bought PowerDVD...which was daft I should have downloaded
the trial versions...anyway did not like PowerDVD and bought WinDVD Platinum
Pro (lots of bells and whistles etc.) and as soon as I installed it...all of
these problems went away. I prefer WinDVD for one main reason.....I am
watching Matrix 2 (reloaded) right now and the image is not contained in a
window...the image IS the desktop...all of my icons and programs are
accessible in the normal way...I suppose I should call it a Video Wallpaper
job.

It might be that downloading the trial version may fix your problem...I
don't know whether the codecs will expire as well as the program...its worth
a try I suppose.

Well, I do have Power DVD on my laptop. It came in the package when I bought the laptop. Do you think that that is the problem? What can I do?

Power DVD will fill the whole screen if you double click the window.

Hi there,

Yes I know that, WinDVD also does that...but then you cant see your
desktop...WinDVD actually becomes the desktop if you want it to...and no
amount of clicking on the moving picture will affect it, Only if you bring
up the Icon that has dropped down onto the bar can you then affect what is
going on...I think its very neat indeed.

Hi there AJ,

Suspecting that it is one of the older versions....you need to either
remove/replace or suspend it.

Removing is obvious, just go to the control panel, select Add/Remove
programs go to the appropriate Icon and away you go.

Replacing means trying the patch pdvdxp4_patch_2417.exe (available from
http://www.softlandmark.com/CyberlinkPowerDVD.htm and you should note that
if the version of power DVD you have is older than V4, this patch will
probably refuse to install) or better yet buying a full registered (current)
version...it WILL overwrite the problem files

Suspend involves finding the codec that is causing you the problem.....
these might be !!! either claudiocd.ax or clmp3wrap.ax or claudfx.ax. What
you have to do is rename these files...perhaps add a letter to the end of
the filename extension will do. I would suggest, even though it may not be
necessary, that you reboot after doing this

I would try the last option above first off.....the least damaging to
the pocket

If this fails then we need to have a re-think
