I tried to reinstall winxp on my new computer after my old one nose dived into a dumpster. I got it to install after dumping all the ram into it i could get my hands on. now i cant get it to activate winxp. i tried over the phone with no sucess. they said my prod key was invalid for some reason. can i get a new one without having to buy a new retail copy. the version i have now is retail. microsoft doesnt seem to give me too many options in my case. so any help would be greatly apperciated.

my problem was mostly due to the fact that i have used my copy of win xp on another computer in the past that doesn't work. i also no longer have the original install disc. i am using a copy i made for myself in case my disc should get scratched badly or what actually happened (got steped on and broke). Micorsoft didn't like that too much so they said they couldn't help me.

Is Windows XP OEM?
If so, normally OEM is not transferable to another computer regardless
the condition of the original computer.
One of the many reasons OEM is cheaper than retail.

If Windows XP is retail, contact Microsoft for replacement CD:

Shell out $$$, or you could clean install the operating
system every 30 days.
