Can't access yahoo mail login page in either Explorer or Firefox

Here's an interesting problem. I hope someone has some idea of how to proceed.

Since this morning I have been unable to load the Yahoo Mail login page. I
also had some trouble loading Yahoo's front page, but that seems to have been
mostly cleared up after deleting cache, cookies, and passwords.

My main browser is Firefox 1.0.7, but I have the same problem with Explorer.
I can navigate through Yahoo without much problem, but when I click on Yahoo
Mail or My Yahoo the browser hangs and eventually returns a message that it
is unable to make a connection. The same is true if I try to access the
account through the login page at Yahoo Canada or Yahoo UK.

All other websites seem to work fine in Firefox and Explorer.

I rarely use Explorer so I don't have a lot of preferences stored there. I
haven't reinstalled it. I did reinstall Mozilla, but that hasn't helped
either.

I'm running Windows XP and Yahoo is one of preferred sites under the
security settings. I am also running Windows Firewall and Norton Antirvirus.
I turned both off, but that hasn't helped either.

I have an email account with Yahoo Japan and can access this with no
problem. I could also access my Yahoo US email from a different computer
this morning, so the problem seems to be local.

But where to look now?

Any help appreciated.

Have since done a clean reinstall of Firefox, that is first uninstalling,
then reinstalling and creating a new profile.

Also ran smitRem, Panda ActiveScan and Ewido and found a few pieces of
malware.

But the probelm remains.

Hi Jeff,

I can think of two possible causes:

- The website (of parts of it) atre blocked by your HOSTS file. See
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm for more info. renalme your
hosts file and reboot.
- The website (or parts of it) are unavailable. I can't test, because I
don't have a Yahoo mail account.

Kind regards

Hans

You say you've deleted your cache, cookies, & passwords. Have you deleted
all of your temporary internet files? I only ask 'cause I've been having a
different Yahoo problem for the past few days, and someone offered this bit
of advice for me today (over on page 3) and it worked (this after I tried 6
or 7 other things first).

Hope it helps,

Real.Lady

We live in Columbia, Mo. We are also unable to access Yahho mail or their
home page. Do you know the answer yet?
I was glad to see your message. I thought we were the only ones having
trouble. Thanks.

I just talked to my internet provider. They are having tech problems with
certain modems that will not allow us to access certain web sites. Yahoo is
one of them. They are working on the problem and hope to solve it soon!

I am so glad to have seen this site and especially your message! I haven't
been able to access yahoo.com for the past couple of days. I had just
received Microsoft's latest updates and then poof! several sites would not
load at all and some others were very, very slow! I didn't know if the
problem was with MS or a local one. Thanks!

Has anyone found a solution for this yet? I'm having similar problems:
1)Can't login to yahoo mail
2) yahoo searches are sloooooooooooooooooow
3) clicking on returned searches aren't displayed
4) can't login to other sites
This all started happening this week after a couple of MS auto
upgrades, however I backed them out and I still had the same problems.
The strange thing is, I don't have this problem at work on a windows xp
machine. the only difference is I have xp home here and xp professional
at work...UUUGGGHHHH

I too am having problems in Iowa at home, but not at work. Today I received
a message that I hadn't before indicating that D32-FW.DLL was not found. I'm
not "techie" enough to know precisely what this means. Any ideas?
