I can't access the Windows update site

When I try to go to the Windows update site I get a Google English page
instead. The address bar says it's the update site, but it isn't. I tried
downloading the malicious software removal tool from Microsoft, but when I
click the download button it says Internet Explorer cannot display the
weppage.

I'm running XP Home and IE7, and have performed a full system scan with AVG.

Security setting in IE can cause this, and are configured
via / Tools or / Options. (Other things can cause this but
you need no special tools to review security settings.)

Try a couple of spyware programs then:

Malwarebytes© Corporation - Anti-Malware
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam/program/mbam-setup.exe

SuperAntispyware - Free
http://www.superantispyware.com/supe...freevspro.html

Joe/Elmo,

I installed and ran the Malwarebytes software. It found a bunch of threats,
including some trojans. Everything seems to be working properly now.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I will run the program regularly now.

Unless you are in the habit of visiting risky web sites, you probably
want to improve the effectiveness of your firewall and anti-virus
protection.
