Can't access websites by typing URL in address line without prefixing it with
http:// This seems to have happened since the latest update from MS. I also
have a process running called verclsid.exe - there are 16 identical processes
running with this name.

Can anyone help?

We posted the same problem almost simultaneously. Happened across the
solution when I notices another thread with a second problem I'd seen:

See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165
"Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install
security update MS06-015".

Right click on it after you save it..modify it...in the box, you will see the

Easy Fix: Visit http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and
scroll
down to Item No. 383 "Hewlett-Packard's Share-to-Web software - Fix
(MS06-015)"
to download a registry fix.

Note: You may need to temporarily disable your antivirus program
in order to safely run the scripted fix.
