I have a home network with 3 PC's running XP Home SP2 and a Linksys Router. I
had to replace the mother board in one of the computers and since then some
.... not all ... shared directories are not accessible from the other 2
computers. If I attempt to open some of the folders I get an error message
that says

"You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Access is denied."

If I check the offending folders on the computer where they live, the folder
properties show them as being Shared. Also the other computers are completely
accessible so it looks like a one way problem.

Does anyone here had a similar problem and found a fix? I've tried unsharing
and resharing with no success.

Do your machines see the share and then are denied access to it?

On the machine with the share go into RUN;

type in "CMD" hit return (Without quotes)
In new black window type (without quotes)
"ipconfig /all"
You should then see a list of numbers and values...
Note down the IP address of your machine.. (192.168.0.1 etc...)
Then on computers you want to access the share from go into My Computer;
then Tools, Map Network Drive then type the following; (without quotes)

"\\ipaddressofsharemachine\sharename"

Hope this helps, let me know

Daniel
So here is my ipconfig for the computer I can't access some folders on
*******************************************************
Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : opus-dei
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : ph.cox.net

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : ph.cox.net
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-50-8D-84-A6-B2
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 68.2.16.25
68.2.16.30
68.6.16.30
Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Saturday, April 14, 2007 4:07:57
PM
Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Sunday, April 15, 2007 4:07:57 PM

***********************************

So I should type in the CMD window \\192.168.1.100\opus-dei

Or do I need to type in the shared folder names that I can't access? I guess
I don't know what the "Sharename" is, I actually have the whole C drive
shared although that didn't seem to share all the folders under it.
