I formatted and backed up information onto a slave drive,
and now Windows 2000 won't recognize the drive on my new
machine. It sees the device and says it is working fine,
but won't assign a logical drive!

How do I get access to my data?

Have you tried assigning a drive letter in Disk Management?

You might also need to take ownership and apply correct permissions.
Permissions where set from another operating system, and with different
SID's even for the administrator account. If the Everyone Group has full
permissions then this will not happen.

Best regards
