Hi everyone...I'm in a bit of a fix. Something has gone
wrong with my HP 533w computer. When I turn it on, it
gives me a message that the hal.dll is either missing or
corrupt. I'll press the f8 button while rebooting and then
highlight the "last known good config." option and press
enter. This just takes me back to the fore
mentioned "missing or corrupt hal.dll" screen. I've also
highlighted the "start in safe mode"...again after
pressing enter, it goes back to the "missing, corrupt...".
I'm not too savy of a computer person that I'm comfortable
using the "help" menu from the f8 screen....I don't know
beans about DOS commands. I've got a Windows XP magazine
that addresses how to reach the recovery console, but it
says that one needs ones WinXP disk. HP doesn't include a
copy of the Windows XP disk with their computers as they
say that because of the recovery option in XP, there is no
need to include one with their new computers. Several days
ago, I downloaded the 6 diskette set for Windows XP set
up. This doesn't really even help me, as I guess I really
don't know exactly how to use them. Does anybody have any
ideas on how I can fix my problem? I'm using my girl
friends Windows 98 computer to write this.
