I have bt homehub broadband installed, but when i open internet explorer i
get a message saying web page cannot be displayed. I rang bt and they went
through a few things for me but to no avail. They said im connected to the
internet, and that there must be a problem with the computer. Ive checked
everything but i cant find any fault. Im connected via ethernet lead. Can
someone suggest anything that might be the problem.

Has this always happened, or is it something new? If it's new, what have you
done between the time it worked and the time it didn't?

Can you "ping" a web site?
Do Start-Run-cmd [return] and at the prompt type in "ping www.google.com"
(without the quotes) and post the results here.

What kind of connection do you have. ADSL or cable. Can you connect to the
modem. Most ADSL modems have a web browser interface that allows you to
adjust the settings for your connection.

It sounds like your modem is connected to your ISP, but you can't connect to
your modem.

I assume your ISP has asked you to switch the modem off for a few minutes,
then on again etc. If there is another LAN adapter on the modem try that.

You will need to tell us what modem you are using - model etc. It's a bit of
a broad question, so we will need to establish what we are working with.

netsh winsock reset

You can also try this software download from a working machine:

In the place I live in now. I had the same problem, but with DSL. When I
called tech support they told me this special URL to go to to redo my
account. Thus far, that has worked.
