I was doing an up grade on xp pro with xp pro (dont
ask). It started to do the upgrade until the system tried
to login and i got an error say something about
registration is invalid. I Figured it was just a bad
install so i did it again and got the same result. So
last try to fix things it installs and windows comes up
but now it made its own directory instead
of "D:\Documents and Settings\Moose" (this was is in
Winnt in NTFS format)it is now in a new
directory "D:\Documents and Settings\Moose123".(there is
also a new directory from one of the bad installs now
called "WINDOWS" along with Winnt folder) Now i see the
old file Moose But i cannot access it i get error is not
accessible access denied. I know the files are there
volume of drive on partition 2 is 20GBs instead of 35GBs
and some of the files like example in my music folder
show they are they and MB size are correct but i cannot
access them. Oh and i did try to do a restore but those
backup files are gone.
Please someone help i have some really important pictures
and documents i need to recover. Im not sure what other
info i need to supply here that would be useful so just
ask. Thank you for your time and support.

Hi Moose,

Follow the instructions in this MSKB article for taking ownership of a file
or folder and see if that helps to resolve the problem:
