Can't access any web sites

Hi. After using Firefox for quite a while (and not using Internet Explorer
for the same duration), I happened to launch IE this evening and discovered
that I can't access any web sites -- none at all. All I receive is a
standard error message stating that "The page cannot be displayed." This
happens with any and all pages that I try to access. This occurs whether I
click on a link in Favorites, or type the URL into the address box.
However, I can use Outlook Express to send/receive email and to access
newsgroups, so I do have access to the Internet. Therefore, it's puzzling
that I can't access the web with IE. This appears to be solely a browser
problem.

Thanks in advance for any help. By the way, my version is IE 6.0.

Try this Winsock fix:

http://downloads.subratam.org/WinsockFix.zip

Download, unzip, scan and reboot.

Test.

Occassionally, after updating windows, some changes are made to
Internet Explorer. When this happens, the firewall will start blocking
it until you let the firewall know that is ok to let the 'changed'
Internet Explorer run. Until then, all you will get is the 'The Page
Cannot Be Displayed'. Many firewalls will do this, and how they are
configured varies. Tutorials covering several firewalls can be found at

Thanks Webbie. Turns out that Norton Internet Security 2005 blocked MS
Internet Explorer (though not Firefox) on my PC. Symantec's Automated
Support Assistant tool resolved the problem very easily and beautifully.
Thanks again for your help!!!
