I am trying to stop pop-up messenger - but when I try to
open Componet Services - it says I'm not authorized - but
I'm the owner of the machine and have Admin Privledges.

Well for starters don't stop the service, there are likely applications
on your box that need it. Install a firewall along side your avp and
block the port that the service uses.

You have admin privledges but are you the administrator?
