This scanner has knocked out or overtaken my printer: HP Deskjet 2400. It
will not print from a scan or any other source.
Probably my fault because I deleted the Canoscan LIDE 2-00 icon which showed
up on Printers and Scanners as a printer... now I have nothing... what to
do? Suggestions appreciated...

Re-install the Printer software.

You should have the scanner turned on and connected while setting up the
Printer.
That would insure correct port connection.

If both are USB devices, you may try different USB ports. Plug each device
in different ports.

I did this and message is USB Device not recognized, malfunctioning.
Question: How do I turn scanner on (sounds dumb, I know) - when installing
printer it says -turn off scanner?
My printer only has blinking light.
I think my printer has gone bust and I have 80 dollars worth of ink
purchased ahead for printing.
I am no expert and use advanced age as an excuse...
I appreciate help.

What is your printer? Brand, Model number

It is possible the printer is defective. But would not give up too
quick.

Is your Printer a multi-device, Printer and scanner and fax?

If so you must install all of the software that came with the Printer.

Unplug the malfunctioning device, than install the printer.

Try a different USB port.

Is this your "printer"?
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...reg_R1002_USEN

If it is, this is a multifunction device, It includes a Printer and Scanner.
You can not turn off the scanner. You must install all of the HP software.

The Canon Lide 200 is a Scanner only, You should be able to have both
devices installed at the same time.

You select which scanner you are to use in the software "Select Source".

Thank you, I will try what you suggest. The printer is HP Deskjet 2400
Series. It is late tonight so will try tomorrow. I have tried different USB
slots. The scanner is working O.K. but, of course, can not send to printer.
The malfunctioning device is the printer - not recognized. It seems to be
jammed in some way.
Your help is appreciated.

if the printer is jammed, you must clear the jam. Read your printer
manual on how to remove paper jams.

Look on the rear of the printer, there may be a door that gives access to
the paper path.

Thank you, I tried the possible paper jam but nothing there. I tried to
reinstall the printer by using the disk. It gets as a far as offering a test
print but won't do it. I do not complete the installation when it won't
print.
I have been on hands and knees in a small space checking the multiple cords
that snake around behind my desk.
I have one spare cord that is an adapter with a small nozzle nose that is
used to reduce power. I think it came off my previous printer -- or
something :-)
Here is an interesting thing - the diagrams that came with the printer do
not match the cords that came with it. One item says: " Should look like
this" and pictures a plug in with screws on the side. Also, it says: only
connect USB cable when prompted... there is no prompt.
I have to give up.
I looked at your website . You really are a knowledgeable person.
One more question please: Would you advise purchasing a combined
printer/scanner? They are on sale right now, but I think if one part fails
so will the other - and are they more complex with many buttons etc.
Thank you for helping mer, much appreciated.
Lorna in Alberta, Canada where it is snowing this morning - picture postcard

Sure sounds like a dead printer.

I prefer stand alone printers and scanners.

There is nothing wrong with combined devices.

You are correct when one part of the multiple device fails, so does the
rest of the device.

When it comes to money, saving a few dollars may be the way to go.

Do what you feel is right.
