Canoscan D1250U2F Locks up PC

I am running XP w/ SP2 service pack. When I plug my scanner into any of the
USB ports, it locks up the PC. I have confirmed that all of the USB ports
are working. I have reformatted my hard drive and re-installed everything,
but did not help. The scanner previously worked when I was using Windows
2000. Any suggestions would be most welcome. I am at aloss as to what to
try next.
