Canon waste ink felt pad.
Having cleaned one recently, I don't want to do that again.

Does anybody sell new, clean, felt waste ink felt pads for various
Canon printers?

Thanks.

Most are available from Canon but often they will only sell to service agents
who want to do the job themselves so they may not onsell to you.
It is not however too hard to make them from carpet underfelt or similar,
marine underfelt is best in my experience because it is highly absorbent and
resistant to mould and rotting.

There was a post a year ago about ABC Electronics in San Francisco selling
one for about $5 plus shipping. I called them today and they now want to
sell them with a CD which has the service manual on it, I believe. They
wanted $40 for the CD plus pad. I spoke to a tech there and he told me that
the pads only cost about $1. They were not really interested in selling
them, but you might give it a try. Maybe offer $10 plus shipping for the
pad alone??? Their phone number is 415-550-3100 and their web site is
www.abctechinc.com . The link for the pad replacement kit is
http://www.abctechinc.com/CanonKit.htm .

Good info, Tony! I figured that any absorbent pad would work. There are
also absorbent pads that we've used in the bilge of a power boat to pick up
any small amounts of diesel fuel or oil that might leak from the engines.
Could probably get carpet underfelt scraps from a friendly carpet sales
firm, either free or for just a few dollars.

GO BUY A NEW PRINTER. OR IF CANON IS WILLING TOO DO IT CHEAP ENOUGH GO
THAT WAY. OR BUY A REFURBISHED IP4000. AT FIRST GLANCE IT APPEARS
BETTER BUILT THAN THE IP4200 AND IT IS FASTER.

That's exactly what we do Burt, the local friendly carpet store sells us
offcuts for pennies, the customer is always delighted to pay almost nothing for
parts.
Another advantage of underfelt is that it is almost lint free so there are no
bits to float around.

I have the service manual for this printer but I have to say it is not a great
document and does not include dissassembly.
I also have the parts manual which helps a little.
If you would like these manuals please e-mail me.
The challenge will be to remove the covers without doing damage, from then on
it doesn't look too difficult. There are about 10 parts to the pads but I am
sure you could fabricate them from underfelt if you don't already have them.

I know some people cut adult disposable diapers to replace the pads in
some printers.

I can't see Measekite (real name Francis) ever cutting up his diaper.
