Canon unclog adventure.

I took a Canon i960 (BCI-6x series of non-chipped cartridges) out of
storage to print a photo. The quality of the print was poor, so I
surfed over to alotofthings.com and ran a primer page <http://
tinyurl.com/5au3j4> to test the output. Only one color was stuck
(cyan). I noticed a bottle of Windex (original formula) radiating
amongst the desk clutter, and remembered something, some factoid,
maybe from the keyboard of the much esteemed Arthur Entlich --
something about original formula Windex, something about Windex
dissolving inkjet clogs. I removed the offending cartridge, turned it
upside down, and sprayed some Windex into the little cup that is the
ink output -- the place where the ink flows from the cartridge to the
printhead. I replaced the cartridge, ran a cleaning cycle, then
printed a test-page. Perfect.

Maybe Windex helped clear the clog. Probably did no harm. Nextclog,
I’ll try it again.

Best,
Larry

The i960 is one of those printers worth keeping in service.
Technically they have improved the ink with a wider color range, and
they have reduced the nozzle size, but the i960 is still a very
passable photoprinter.

Canon closed out their ip6700Ds recently for $40, cheaper than the in
it self, and they are closing out the last of their mp960s at $100 on
the estore. The latest and greatest mp980 doesn't include light cyan/
light magenta. Rather they added a grey cartridge. It's hard to say
at this point whether or not the latest and greatest renders skys and
skintones as well as the i960/ip6700D.
