I've been looking at buying a Canon S900 photo printer... mostly because it
has separate print cartridges....

Does anyone have any other suggestions for good quality/low price for doing
prints at home on photo paper from digital images?

Thanks!

Dave

I think that the S900 has been replaced by the i950. That latter printer has
6 individual ink tanks. I am using one right now for general purpose and
photo printing. Very good images.

Also, it is exceptionally quiet, if that is a consideration.

yeah the i950 is faster better cheaper. unscrupulous merchants are still
selling the s900 at the old price until their stock has gone before moving
to the 950

Thanks for the help guys... but... you just said, among other things,
"cheaper" - I've been searching around, and it looks like the i950 is $100
MORE than the s900.... (s900 ~$150, i950 ~$240.)

Where do you look for the best prices?

Thanks.

Correct me if I'm wrong but to my knowledge the Canon "S" series
is a discontinued line (not advertised anymore), replaced by the
new "i" series printers. Supposedly the "i" series would have most
of the bugs ironed out that were common in the older "S" series,
like print head problems. The new series has a completely
re-designed user-replaceable print head - that IS supposed to
last the life of the printer. I couldn't affort the i950, bought
the i850. Prints excellent, better than photo shop photos.

Canon i950. It has 6 separate cartridges. Mind you, that does not
necessarily mean cheap ink. I have just printed two rolls of slides at
12x18 cm, and almost run out of light cyan and light magenta (11.5 USD
each). Yellow is also half the way down (11.5 USD that too).

If you print on max res. (set in the driver) the ink will run out fast
indeed. Try to set high not highest or even std quality in the driver
and it will save a lot of ink.

Canon i850/i950 prints look almost the SAME when printed in highest
res and high res - they're SAME when looking at them with a naked eye.
The diffrence is big, because it uses more ink and prints a lot slower
(4x6" photo in 3 mins on highest vs. 1 min on high res - i850). There
is also no big diffrence between high & std mode (at least I don't see
any). People using Easy Photo Print (bundled with the printer) can
print in std or high res only (on Photo Paper Pro). They can't use
highest res mode which can be used (for example) in photoshop, and
must be set in the driver.

Will have to try that with my new V8 Mercedes SL
I don't refill Canons and Epsons and I won't (everyone knows why).
