Just got it and like it- got it for only $100 at Staples.

I've been buying after market toner for my laser printers for years at
Inkjetsuperstore.com with excellent luck.

If I get their non OEM ink for this printer- is there much of a risk? Does
it kill the warranty? Quality?

I already have a black and white laser (HP LaserJet 1320) and a color laser
(HP LaserJet 1600). The 1600 only prints fair quality which is fine for
business print jobs but not great for photos- it's very fast but I just ran
out of a cartridge (at the end of its life it started "bleeding" into the
printer). I ordered a replacement cartridge from the aftermarket place- but
meanwhile, I've read that color is better on newer injects. The MX870 is
pretty nifty for a mere $100. I just printed a photo with it which looks
much better than the 1600 could do.

For black and white, a good mono laser of course is the way to go.

The scanner function of the MX870 seems very good- a magazine article dissed
it- but, I scanned a photo then printed it the the scanned item looks better
than the original. When I used to scan photos on a fairly old Epson scanner,
then print it on the 1600, it lost a lot of the quality.

So, anyone, is it safe to use aftermarket ink on this printer?

Hi Joe,
I don't know about the quality of inks from inkjet superstore. But a
very reliable supplier is Supply Source. You can contact them at
(E-Mail Removed).

It is illegal for a machine manufacturer to void their warranty simply
because a person uses non OEM supplies. The only exception to this is
if they can prove that a specific non OEM ink has damaged the machine.
And once that machine has been repaired for a fee the warranty is back
in effect.

Unlike Epsons which tend to clog with Generic ink I have found the Canon
ink printers have no problem with quality generic ink. Best of all the
generic ink is dirt cheap, prints well including photos, and they come
with the chip. I've been having very good results with this supplier but
I suspect you get even better prices from them when you go thru Amazon.

wouldn't it be nice if the cartridges were designed for the customer to
refill? then we could buy ink in quantity, refill them ourselves with no
hassles- of course they won't do that

its seems to me this is comparable to buying our own engine oil and changing
the oil ourselves, millions of people do it- and it's not difficult- if one
printer firm did this, they'd all have to
